Laurel United Youth Groups

We take a holistic approach with children and young people.

Group Timing & Frequency

Senior Group: Tuesday 6:15pm - 7:45pm (11-19 Years)
The LAB Youth Group: Friday 4:15pm - 5:45pm (Belmont Community Association)

Our work is underpinned by The National Curriculum Youth Work Framework. We have a clear set of values:

• Young people choosing to take part

• Utilising young people’s view of the world

• Treating young people with respect

• Seeking to develop young people’s skills and attitudes rather than remedy “problem behaviours”

• Helping young people develop stronger relationships and collective identities

• Respecting and valuing differences

• Promoting the voice of young people

We take a holistic approach with children and young people. The relationship between children and youth workers is entirely voluntary. This means that children are liberated to co-design and lead their own experience, through engagement with youth work on their own terms and as equals with workers.

We seek to promote young people’s personal and social development and enable them to have a voice, influence and place in their communities and society. Building resilience and character and giving young people the confidence and life skills they need to live, learn, work, and achieve.

We offer young people a safe place to explore their identity, experience decision-making, develop inter-personal skills and think through the consequences of their actions, leading to better informed choices, changes in activity and improved outcomes. Our work begins with young people as a starting point then building our support and youth work practice around them, their peers, and their communities.

Our youth work themes are based on what we know children want to address and engage in.

This is based on research, observations, and consultations. Some of our themes include:

· Identity and Belonging

· Health and Wellbeing

· Leadership

· Engagement and Participation

· Creativity and Fun

· Global Citizenship

· Skills Development

· Healthy and Safe Relationships
